How To Ship A Bed Frame
Bed frames come in all shapes and sizes, but unfortunately, not all of these are very convenient sizes for moving them around! Even if disassembled, beds will generally be too large to send to your local post office. Whether you have sold a bed frame, bought one, or are moving house, to move it you will need to find a bed shipping service, and this is where Shiply can assist you.
Hundreds of transport providers use our platform and are ready to bid on your job, often at rates up to 75% less than usual. You just need to provide some basic information on our form and you can start collecting quotes to move your bed straight away.
How Much Does It Cost To Ship A Bed Frame?
Shipping a bed or bed frame can vary in price, but generally, it should cost around $0.70 per mile if the journey is a shorter one, going up to around $2.50 per mile for longer journeys.
Distance is obviously a contributing factor to the cost of your bed shipping, but there are some more you should be aware of:
Size - Whilst beds and bed frames can be disassembled, because of the size of the parts, they can still be quite big, and the size will affect the type of vehicle needed to transport your bed. For example, a queen-size bed frame will likely cost more to move than a baby’s cot.
Timings - If you need your bed or bed frame shipped by a certain time or date, then this will be factored into the costs by your bed shipper. Drivers on our platform will typically be trying to fit your item into their vehicle on a journey they are already making, and so if they need to make a separate trip just for your item, this will likely increase the price of your bed shipping quote.
Time Of Year - Whilst rare, bad weather conditions such as snow, ice, and wind can lead to certain roads and routes being shut off, causing the driver’s journey to be longer and the cost of the quote to be higher.
Locations Of Pickup And Delivery - Depending on where your pickup and delivery locations are, this can also increase the price to ship a bed frame. If either location is considerably out of the way or remote then this may end up costing a bit more as the driver will have to travel further.
How Can Shiply Help Find Bed Frame Shipping Companies?
To get started, you will need to provide us with some information about what it is you need to move. This will include the size of the bed, the desired timings for delivery and the pickup and delivery locations. Once you have filled out this information, you will start to receive quotes from bed shipping companies who want to carry out your delivery.
Our platform has a feedback and rating system built in that allows you to choose a bed frame delivery company based on their feedback score and previous reviews, giving you peace of mind that you have made the right choice. There is also a built-in messaging system allowing you to message any company that has quoted you with further questions or queries.
Transport providers on Shiply are usually attempting to fill empty space in their vehicles on trips that they are already making. This means that using our platform is great for the environment as it reduces the number of unnecessary delivery vehicles on the roads, but it is also great for your wallet as the drivers are able to offer rates up to 75% less than usual as they are going there anyway and have spare space.
Preparing Your Bed For Pickup
Once you have made your way through the quotes, reviewed feedback, and decided on the bed shipper for you, you can go ahead and accept the quote and pay the deposit. There are a few things we recommend doing before the item is picked up:
Check Condition - It is always best to check the condition of your bed before you send it off. This gives you a good idea of how it looked before the pickup, so you know what to expect on the other end.
Photographs - Following on from checking the condition, it is a great idea to also photograph your bed frame to document the condition. If an issue arises, these pictures will come in handy to prove the condition before pickup.
Disassemble - A bed or bed frame is much easier to send (and a lot safer from damage in transit) if it is disassembled. We always recommend doing this if possible as it also makes the space your bed frame will take up in a vehicle much smaller.
Packing - Wrapping your bed frame in bubble wrap or sheets will go a long way to protecting it from any accidental damage during transit.
What To Do After Delivery
Once your bed or bed frame has been shipped, we recommend the first thing you do is check over the condition (if you aren’t the receiver, ask them to send photos and compare them to yours). You should raise any issues you have with the bed shipper as soon as possible.
We also ask that you leave feedback and a review for your chosen bed shipping service so that Shiply users can know what to expect from them.
