How To Ship A Couch
Couches (or sofas) are one of the mainstays of our living rooms. Once we find one we like, we often want to stick with it for a while, not just because it can be very expensive but because we get attached! Unfortunately, couches are not the easiest pieces of furniture to ship in the world, and so you will likely require a shipping company’s assistance to move your couch. This is where Shiply can help you.
There are many companies on Shiply waiting to bid on couch shipping jobs like yours, typically at rates that can be up to 75% less than standard. All you have to do is supply us with some simple information and you can start receiving bids to move your sofa almost immediately.
How Much Does It Cost To Ship A Couch?
Furniture shipping generally costs around $60 to $250 for local deliveries, whilst state-to-state or cross-country shipping can go from anywhere from $300 to $600+. These are just rough estimates, however, as there are a number of factors aside from distance that can change the price of shipping a couch:
Size - Couches can come in all shapes and sizes, from small two-seaters to full-on corner sofas that stretch around two halves of a room. Whilst many couches are able to be disassembled to some extent, they still take up a lot of room, and larger couches may require a larger vehicle which can add to the costs of shipping a couch.
Timings - If you are in a rush and need your couch delivered by a certain time or a specific date then this may add to the cost to ship a couch. Many of the transport providers on Shiply are making journeys already and are simply looking for extra items to fill up their vehicles. This means that if you can work around their schedule you will get reduced rates, but if you have specific timing needs then this will likely cost you more.
Time Of Year - This is a rarity, but sometimes in Winter some roads and routes can be shut down due to windy, snowy, and icy conditions that make it dangerous. If a driver needs to take a much longer route due to this, unfortunately, this may end up costing you more.
Locations Of Pickup And Delivery - Pickups and deliveries in and around cities and urban areas are to be expected and generally will not be an issue. However, if your pickup and/or delivery locations are quite remote then the couch shipper may have to charge more as it is out of the way of his normal route.
How Can Shiply Help Find Couch Shipping Companies?
Shipping a couch is incredibly quick and easy on our platform. You just need to enter the size of the couch (photos are also helpful for the couch shippers), the time of delivery needed, and the pickup and delivery addresses. Once we have this information from you we will post the job up on the job board and you will start to receive quotes to move your couch straight to your email and Shiply inbox.
We have a feedback score and rating system for each transport provider on our site, meaning you can read reviews and pick the quote that works out best for you. You are also able to message each couch shipping company that has sent a quote to you and ask them any outstanding questions you may have for ultimate peace of mind.
The drivers on our platform tend to be making a similar journey already and will quote you for your job as they have spare space in their vehicle and think they can fit it in. Not only does this mean that using Shiply is ensuring there are fewer unnecessary delivery vehicles on the roads, but it also means you will likely receive quotes up to 75% less than usual as many of the costs for delivery have already been factored into the journey.
Preparing Your Couch For Pickup
If you have reviewed all of your quotes, asked any questions you had, and are happy with the responses, you can go ahead and accept a quote to ship your couch. You will then need to pay the deposit and prepare for pickup. There are a few steps we advise you to take before your couch is shipped:
Check Condition - You should thoroughly check the condition of your sofa or couch before it is shipped as this will help identify any accidental stains or damage caused through transit.
Photographs - Whilst checking the condition of your couch, you should ensure to take time-stamped photographs of the piece of furniture to ensure the condition is well documented. These will come in handy as proof should any major issues arise.
Disassemble - This is not possible with all couches, but where it is, you should do it. Disassembling a couch will not only make it smaller and able to fit into a delivery vehicle more easily but also massively reduces the risk of the sofa becoming damaged.
Packing - Wrapping your couch is crucial to avoid stains and damage during transit. We recommend using bubble wrap, sheets, or similar. If you need help with this, you can always highlight this in your quote.
What To Do After Delivery
Once you have received your couch on the other end, the absolute first thing you should look to do is to check its condition. You can use the photographs you took earlier to compare with and should raise any issues or concerns you have as soon as possible.
Once everything is done, we do ask that you leave a review for your chosen couch shipper so that future Shiply users can know what to expect from them.
